TOLEDO EXCEL: EXCEL UT3
UT3 is a University of Toledo partnership grant dedicated to
recruiting, preparing, and supporting highly qualified science and math
urban teachers. The program is designed to provide education students with
academic, financial, and professional support to successfully teach
science or math. The EXCEL
UT3 component, a six week academic year
initiative and a 3-week residential Summer Institute, is designed to
encourage and prepare 15-20 TOLEDO EXCEL pre-college students to be
successful in pre-service and professional development as teachers of
mathematics and science education, acquaint students with the practical
aspects of teaching early on and create opportunities for academically
talented students to interact with successful science and mathematics
teachers.
Students who participate in the EXCEL
UT3 six week academic initiative
will take part in activities and classes that are designed to provide
additional knowledge and experience with math and science and the teaching
and learning process. Students will have the opportunity to learn while
teaching others through tutoring students and working along side teachers
in the classroom.
Students will then have the opportunity to participate in the EXCEL
UT3 Summer Institute which is designed to help improve math & science skills,
promote career exploration in the fields of math, science and engineering
and develop personal skills, such as leadership and responsibility. Those
selected to participate in the EXCEL
UT3 Summer Institute will be eligible
to receive a stipend and can substitute this program for their required
Summer Institute.
